Rafa Ferrer Noel’s – Afrokan
Led by New Zealand’s foremost exponents of Cuban music, Afrokan marks the latest project from veteran percussionist Rafa Ferrer Noel. This premiere performance offers audiences a vibrant and rhythmically rich exploration of cross-cultural musical dialogue.
A central figure in Wellington’s Cuban and Latin music communities for over two decades, Rafa leads an accomplished octet performing a sophisticated fusion of Afro-Cuban rhythms and contemporary jazz. The ensemble features Rafa Ferrer Noel, Mikey Trujillo and John Rae (percussion), Jacqui Nyman (bass), Ben Wilcock (piano), André Paris and Ben Hunt (horns).
