Free Status is a jazz fusion band, drawing melodic inspiration from icons like Herbie Hancock and 70s jazz/funk legends, with electronic flair from artists like Moby.
At the heart of Free Status is Tommy David on keys - an accomplished musician/composer early in his career. Composition is central to his artistry.
The rhythm section features Behzad Karakia (drums) and Tyler Diprose (bass), who’ve performed with many of New Zealand’s jazz greats. James Dawes, lead alto sax, was recently selected for an international touring band, his versatility extends beyond jazz. Sam Voyle is on keys - primarily a tenor saxophonist - with a long-standing musical history with Tommy David. On vocals is Melody Lui-Webster, an award-winning singer and seasoned musical theatre performer with extensive stage and TV credits.
