Tui Award–winner Umar Zakaria blends Malay folk music with improvisational jazz.

Umar Zakaria's latest quartet concept takes the theme of 'Fearless Music' to a new arena to push the boundaries of his own cultural heritage, blending traditional knowledge of Malay folk music with the ever-evolving improvisational art of jazz and creating a truly unique musical offering for this year's jazz festival.

Featuring a classic partnership with Luther Hunt on drums as well as the electric new talents of Ella Dunbar-Wilcox on piano and Cheena Rae on saxophone, this Christchurch-heavy quartet will take you on a massive musical journey for the night, with a balance of intensity and intimacy that has become a trademark of the Tui-winning bassist's ensembles.
