Members of Yoko-Zuna & Avantdale Bowling Club are bringing their Tribute series to Wellington, playing homage to two of the biggest names in the Los Angeles music scene, Kamasi Washington and Flying Lotus. Swap Gomez, J.Y Lee, Kenji Iwamistu Holdaway, & Guy Harrison have held a year-long residency in Tāmaki Makaurau playing and paying tribute to the likes of Radiohead, Outkast, MF DOOM, A Tribe Called Quest and Thundercat to name a few.
Kamasi Washington is a jazz saxophonist who has collaborated with some of America's greatest names such as Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Horace Tapscott, Gerald Wilson, Lauryn Hill, Nas, Snoop Dogg, George Duke, Chaka Khan, Flying Lotus, Thundercat, Mike Muir, Francisco Aguabella, the Pan Afrikaan People's Orchestra and Raphael Saadiq.
Flying Lotus aka Flylo is an American record producer, musician, DJ, filmmaker, and rapper in LA. He is also the founder of the record label Brainfeeder. Flying Lotus has released six studio albums — 1983 (2006), Los Angeles (2008), Cosmogramma (2010), Until the Quiet Comes (2012), You're Dead! (2014), and Flamagra (2019) — to critical acclaim. He has produced much of the bumper music on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming block.
