Local singer-songwriters sing for their supper, with a jazz twist
This lovely wee event happens at Southern Cross Garden Bar Restaurant every Wednesday from 6.30pm. Local singer-songwriters come along and literally sing for their supper - they entertain the guests and The Cross make sure they're fed! What a sweet little gig! They just love having Wellington's talent on stage - each week showcasing up-and-coming artists and established musicians working on new material.
This special Jazz Festival Edition is back after great success in 2017, and features three different local Jazz musicians and bands during the night, at 6.30pm, 7.30pm & 8.30pm.
6:30pm: Jenna Searle & Rachael Hinds
Jenna Searle and Rachael Hinds formed a Double bass and vocal duo towards the end of 2017. Hailing from the Jazz school at the New Zealand School of Music; this duo bring stripped back versions of jazz classics which give a warm authentic aesthetic.
7:30pm: Ruby Solly & Daniela Butterfield
In a rare performance together, Wellington jazz cellist and vocalist Ruby Solly and multi-instrumentalist Daniela Butterfield will be presenting a nostalgic set of familiar dixie and swing favourites. Black tie necessary, martini optional.
8:30pm: Thingy, Thingy & Jacqui
If cheeky jazz is your cup of tea, these ladies are here for your listening pleasure! With Bridget Kelly, Jacqui Nyman and Sophie Cooper being much loved figures of the local jazz scene, this special set of standards is set to be one to remember for many festivals to come.
Come along on the night to be swept away in an evening of classic and contemporary jazz. There may even be a special guest or two!
