Smashingly off-beat melody, humour, beauty and swing abound in this hippest of big bands, capturing the spirit of Thelonious Monk

Get ready to get down with John Beasley and his “extraordinary” (The Times) MONK’estra, one of the hottest, most unique modern big bands you’ll hear today.

Inspired by the spirit of revolutionary jazz pianist Thelonious Monk, John Beasley – an acclaimed jazz pianist himself, who’s played with Miles Davis and Freddie Hubbard – has taken Monk’s original music and offbeat style and run with it, creating an energetic, experimental big band sound that is quite his own. A bit of swing, a dash of funk and a whole heap of good times in every phrase.

Sharing the joyride with local talent, the MONK’estra players will hit the stage with some of New Zealand’s leading jazz musicians. A truly collaborative performance from Monk, to MONK’estra, to you.
