A sweet & savoury jazz infusion
Jazz-trained singer and guitarist Sophie Cooper draws on influences from the likes of Shirley Horn, Nesian Mystik, Sarah Vaughan, Daniel Yeabsley, Blossom Dearie and Uncle Bob Marley, as well as the native flora and fauna of Aotearoa.
Since picking up the guitar at age eight, Sophie's musical journey began, with a passion for writing original music and playing jazz tunes and other music with an original flavour and a sweet/savoury infusion.
She studied vocals at the New Zealand School of Music and played around the country in jazz duo What a Treat and reggae/sister band Dr Reknaw. Sophie has recently returned from playing her way solo across Europe and Australia and is working towards Dr Reknaws first album.
